Training Opportunities

Structured training in Brief and Narrative Therapy for practitioners: an intensive program, certificate options through partner institutions, and workshops on focused clinical themes.

Intensive Training Program

Intensive Training Program in Brief & Narrative Therapy

The Intensive Training Program brings together the practice traditions of Brief Therapy and Narrative Therapy in a single course of study. Sessions are led by faculty with clinical and teaching experience in both approaches.

Faculty for the program have included Scot Cooper, Jim Duvall, Eric King and Karen Young. Jim Duvall is affiliated with the Hincks-Dellcrest Institute, where Brief and Narrative Therapy training and workshops are offered.

Program content is oriented toward practice-based evidence: clinicians are encouraged to connect what they do in the room with the ideas and research that inform it.

Training at the network grows out of a simple conviction: the ideas that shape brief and narrative practice are best learned in conversation rather than in isolation. Sessions bring practitioners together to read closely, watch clinical work unfold, and question their own assumptions with curiosity. Faculty draw on both traditions, inviting participants to notice how language, relationship, and context shape the stories people tell about their lives. Rather than offering formulas, the teaching stays close to the lived complexity of practice, leaving room for each participant to find their own footing.

Alongside the longer course of study, shorter workshops give room to dwell on particular clinical themes and to test ideas against experience. Participants are encouraged to bring their own work, their uncertainties, and their questions, so that learning stays grounded in the everyday realities of the consulting room. The atmosphere is collaborative and unhurried, with space for dialogue among peers as much as with teachers. Those who join tend to value the exchange of perspectives, the sense of a shared community of practice, and the invitation to keep challenging their own thinking long after a session ends.
